The History of Dexter

Dexter was founded in 2018 by a group of engineers, and named after the word Dexterity, which means readiness and grace in physical and mental activity. Dexter started as an after-school and summer program to promote STEM learning. Our camps centered around intensifying the learning experience for students who are interested in STEM.

In 2018, our first cohort of 20 students (grades 3-10) began in the historic "Big Blue" building in downtown Wichita Falls. In 2021, we acquired the campus we currently use. Through much staff dedication and hard work, we have risen to a student population of about 130 on-campus students and received accreditation to offer high school diplomas to graduating students.

The Dexter Shield

The 4 HOUSES of Dexter represented on this shield are:

Astro represents space, Datos represents artificial intelligence, Mar represents the sea, and Terra represents the Earth... but it goes far beyond that.

While you are at Dexter, your triumphs will earn your House points, while any rule-breaking will lose House points. At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honor.

The Dexter Ethos

These are the fundamental characteristics that all Dexter students and faculty should embody.

Be truthful. Being deceptive hurts you and others, own up to your mistakes.

Demonstrate sound moral and ethical principles, living your values in relationships with others.
Honesty and trust are central to integrity.

Treat others as you’d like to be treated. A little kindness goes a long way.

Go the extra mile, do more than is expected of you.

Exercise restraint over your own impulses, emotions and desires.

Have regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others.

Persist with tasks, dreams, ideas, and passions despite difficulties or opposition.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

Coping with setbacks, barriers, or limited resources.
Determination to overcome obstacles. Emotional strength.

Do what you say you're going to do.

Be humble, put others before yourself.

We're building spaces for young people to thrive.

Dexter's Vision, Mission, and Motto:

The vision of Dexter provides students with a challenging, learning environment to inspire joy at the prospect of discovery, and foster a culture of innovation based on ethical behavior and the shared interests of humanity.

The mission of Dexter is to hyper-focus on acquiring and building basic, universal, core knowledge within our students. Through a rigorous curriculum, we will equip students with problem-solving skills that will enable them to become tomorrow’s leading citizens: engineers, scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs. Small class sizes, high teacher-to-student ratios, and lessons that balance classical education with modern technology provide the structure and space for students to develop the discipline, diligence, and attention to detail necessary for lives of productivity, creativity, and lifelong learning.
